ORGREZ and KPMG to prepare a new thermal energy concept for Bratislava focused on decarbonization

Brno, January 12, 2026 – Technology company ORGREZ, a.s., together with consulting firm KPMG Slovensko Advisory, k.s., are beginning work on updating the Concept for Development in the Field of Thermal Energy in the City of Bratislava.

The document takes the original 2019 version to a whole new level: the material will become a strategic, data-driven tool that will enable the city to systematically meet its climate goals while responding quickly and appropriately to technological and investment developments.

According to experts, decarbonizing the heating industry is one of the most challenging but also most crucial steps that Bratislava faces.

"Thanks to the use of advanced software and AI, combined with our many years of experience in sustainable energy and environmental protection, we will bring a completely new perspective to the development of the strategic concept. The basis is automated data analysis of all available data sources with the possibility of rapid updates in the future. Based on this, i.e., according to accurate data and clear priorities, it will be possible to focus on proposals for specific, feasible decarbonization scenarios, with an emphasis on their economics," says Vladimír Hlavinka, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ORGREZ Group.

According to the city's specifications, Bratislava will be divided into several logical units, for which measures will be proposed so that it is realistic not only to meet the decarbonization targets for 2050. The entire concept also includes a short-term outlook until 2030. The proposal section will take into account planned investments and renovations of existing operations and the possibilities of using renewable sources, waste heat, and other modern technologies. Beyond the scope of the assignment, it will also include proposals for additional and follow-up measures. The result will be a comprehensive development model offering three options – from a scenario respecting existing investment plans, through an optimized solution, to an ambitious option with maximum involvement of renewable sources and interconnection of energy sectors.

Data as the basis for strategic decision-making

A specific benefit of the project is advanced data processing. In agreement with the client, data will be collected and analyzed from the maximum number of available databases. In addition, optimized data collection will be performed using ORGREZIO software, which has already been successfully applied to compile ESG reports for other large clients. Data analysis is a key element of the decarbonization strategy, and thanks to the proposed solution, it will be possible to work with an order of magnitude greater amount of data than in the previous concept.

Based on the analyzed data, a simplified live model will be created for the city's needs, in which it will be possible to analyze any deviations from the set strategy and their impact. All solutions will be proposed with regard to the economic feasibility of investments, and the prioritization of individual measures over time will be evaluated.

"The purpose is to create a high-quality document that the city can rely on when planning its future development. The evaluation of deviations from the proposed strategy provides very quick and clear answers to questions that often arise when approving strategic decisions for cities, replacing common feelings and assumptions with accurate data," adds Jan Hanus, an experienced energy and environmental expert and member of the senior management of the ORGREZ group.

The update to the concept directly follows on from the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) approved in 2024. In it, Bratislava declared its commitment to reduce CO₂ emissions by a further 25 percent by 2030. Given that a reduction of more than 30 percent was achieved between 2005 and 2022, it is clear that further progress will require more sophisticated coordination and cooperation with all key players. The new thermal energy concept therefore represents a strategic framework that will translate the vision of a climate-neutral Bratislava into concrete steps.
