Expert seminar in Zvánovice: sharing experiences that advance Czech energy

At ORGREZ, we take care not only of energy equipment, but also of the knowledge of its operators. This year's professional seminar organized by our Thermal Engineering and Energy Division reminded us how important it is to share know-how across the industry – from steam turbine operation to renewable sources at wastewater treatment plants.

Expert seminar in Zvánovice: sharing experiences that advance Czech energy

High-quality energy is based not only on cutting-edge technologies, but also on people who know how to work with them. That is why we organize professional seminars for operators, technologists, and engineers from energy companies.

One of these seminars took place in October this year at Lesní lázně in Zvánovice and offered two days packed with expert contributions, discussions, and practical operational experience.

Two days full of technical topics and discussions

This year's program was prepared by the Thermal Engineering and Energy Division under the leadership of Jitka Hlavová and covered a wide range of topics – from acoustics and diagnostics to new approaches to effective equipment renewal planning.

  • Martin Beneš (ORGREZ, a.s.) opened the topic of power plant start-ups after long-term shutdowns – an issue that has a significant impact on the reliability and service life of equipment.
  • Martin Borovský (ČEZ, a.s.) shared his experiences from the operation of the Počerady combined cycle power plant. He showed how modernization and optimization of start-ups are increasing the flexibility of the source and enabling it to respond to changes in the grid in the order of tens of megawatts per minute.
  • Ladislava Hrůzová (Siemens Energy s.r.o.) presented methods for measuring noise in real conditions in engine rooms and explained why acoustic diagnostics are becoming an integral part of safe operation.
  • Kateřina Krestová (TESO Ostrava) followed up with the topic of noise maps of industrial sites, which help identify critical areas and optimize noise measures before limits are exceeded.
  • Jan Chvátal (Siemens Energy s.r.o.) pointed out common mistakes in the preparation of tender documentation and showed how they can affect the technical solution and the overall cost of the project.
  • David Šťáva (ENEXT s.r.o.) described the process of connecting energy equipment to the distribution network, including testing requirements in accordance with PPDS and RfG.
  • Zdeněk Adámek (ORGREZ, a.s.) focused on diagnostics using helium—a method that allows even the smallest leaks in turbine vacuum systems to be detected, thereby significantly improving their efficiency.
  • Zdeněk Zelenka (E3M Group s.r.o.) demonstrated how renewable energy sources can be used in wastewater treatment plants and presented examples of combinations of biogas technologies, heat pumps, and photovoltaics.
  • Vilém Hanzal (ČEZ, a.s.) provided an overview of the low-temperature ORC cycle – a technology that can utilize waste heat but faces limitations in terms of efficiency and commercial availability.
  • Jan Krišpín (ORGREZ, a.s.) presented our new approach to transformer renewal planning. He explained how we combine diagnostics, economic modeling, and LCA analyses to help network operators invest efficiently and in line with EU energy efficiency targets.

When practice speaks to practice

What all the contributions had in common was maximum openness and a realistic view of operational practice.

The discussions showed that today's energy sector faces new challenges – from decarbonization goals and pressure for efficiency to digitization and automation of operations.

That is why we consider it crucial for industry experts to be able to share their experiences across companies and generations.

Working together for safer and more efficient energy

We would like to thank all the speakers and participants for two inspiring days. We believe that the new knowledge gained is already being put into practice and helping to increase the safety, reliability, and efficiency of energy operations.
We at ORGREZ will continue this tradition – continuing to support the professional community, developing education, and working together to move Czechia's energy sector forward.
